The mass of the Lord's Supper commemorates the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood, as well as Jesus' command of love and service. Washing the feet of the disciples, Jesus calls us all to serve Him by serving each other. Knowing what is to come, he continues to love those who will desert him as he prepares for his death on the cross. The tolling of the bells on Holy Thursday signals our entering into the sacred Easter Triduum of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. After the distribution of communion Father Rick transfers the Blessed Sacrament to the place of repose in the Chapel. Father Rick and the deacons then return to the church, strip the altar, and exit in silence. The congregation is encouraged to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel. Worshipers quietly leaving the Chapel are reminded again of the Crucifixion of Jesus. They then exit to the foggy outdoors, a somber reminder of the events to come.
